A legals only wedding - sometimes called a registry wedding - is the simplest way to marry in Australia. Think: short ceremony, every legal box ticked, no stress. Most people picture a queue, a laminate desk and a slot at 11:40 on a Tuesday.
Not here. The Marriage Office is a micro wedding venue in Cowaramup, founded to marry people simply and legally - with a warm ceremony, simplified paperwork, a bona fide marriage certificate, and your marriage registered with Births, Deaths and Marriages.
Award-winning Celebrant Anita Revel built this beautiful space herself, and with 18 years of experience she knows what couples are looking for. Every space is curated to appeal - a dazzling gold door, a wall of gold sequins, a bohemian collection of dream-catchers, and a bay window Wes Anderson himself would approve of.
You get an authorised marriage celebrant with 18+ years behind her, every document lodged and registered on your behalf, and a marriage ceremony that will remain a beautiful memory for the rest of your lives together.

Accept your quote and your date is locked in. The law wants a Notice of Intended Marriage at least a calendar month out - Anita prepares it, checks your documents and lodges it.

Fifteen minutes, including the signing. Anita registers everything with the state. You go to lunch.

The bits people always ask
Is this the same as a registry office wedding?
Legally, yes. A registry-office style wedding with an authorised celebrant produces exactly the same marriage, the same paperwork and the same certificate, registered with the same government office. What changes is how soon you can have it, the room you stand in, and whether the person marrying you knows your names before the day.
We're a marriage office, not a government registry - we just do the same job, in Margaret River, and with better wallpaper.
What does a registry-office style wedding cost?
$995 all inclusive for the Simple Ceremony - celebrant, venue, paperwork, registration and a presentation certificate. That is a short, standard ceremony and 30 minutes exclusive use of the space. If you would like the ceremony written around you and a professional photographer included, the Luxe Elopement is $2,295. Checking a date is obligation free.
Is this a micro wedding, or an elopement?
Either, depending on who you bring. With up to six guests it is a micro wedding. With nobody but the two of you it is an elopement. Same ceremony, same price, and we have run a lot of both.
Is this a civil ceremony?
Yes. Every marriage performed by a civil celebrant is a civil ceremony - no religious content unless you specifically ask for some.
What about a courthouse wedding?
Australia doesn't do courthouse weddings the way the American films do. Marriages here are performed either by a state registry office or by an authorised civil or religious celebrant. If a courthouse wedding is what you had in mind, this is the closest thing to it - and considerably better lit.
How quickly can we get married?
One calendar month from the day your Notice of Intended Marriage is lodged. Lodge it today and your earliest possible date is a month from today.* That's federal law and nobody can shorten it without specific approved grounds.
We're not rationing slots, so if the date you want is free, it's yours. The notice stays valid for 18 months, so planning further ahead is fine too.

Do we need to bring witnesses?
Two witnesses over 18 are legally required. If you'd rather not involve anyone, we can supply them.
Where are you, and how far do you go?
The Marriage Office is at 1 Lovers Lane, Cowaramup, in the middle of the Margaret River region. If you have been searching for a wedding celebrant or marriage celebrant near you anywhere in the South West, this is comfortably it.
We are the celebrant most South West couples end up with, whether they are driving down from Bunbury or up from Augusta, and Busselton, Vasse, Dunsborough, Yallingup, Cowaramup and Margaret River in between.
Is the marriage certificate included?
You'll get a presentation certificate on the day. If you also need the official certified one - usually for a name change, a visa or a passport - you order that from WA Births, Deaths & Marriages for $60. Same fee whoever marries you, registry office included. We'll show you how; it takes about two minutes.
Can we bring our dog?
Yes. Dogs on leads are welcome. Let us know they're coming so we can make sure the Marriage Office mascot - Freddie Mercury, a mini dachshund - is off-site during your ceremony.
Do you take a deposit?
Nothing to pay to enquire or check a date. Once you have chosen a package and accepted your quote, a booking fee confirms your date and time - Anita covers all of that when she sends the quote through.
