Why here
A Margaret River wedding is mostly about Margaret River
Nobody flies across the country for a room. Most couples come for the four days either side of the ceremony - and this is a region built almost entirely for that. The Margaret River region runs from Busselton and Dunsborough in the north, down through Yallingup, Cowaramup and Margaret River to Augusta, and we marry couples right across it. Everything is within half an hour of everything else, and none of it is in a hurry.
Wine
Close to a hundred cellar doors inside one hour. Vasse Felix, Leeuwin, Cullen, and a great many smaller ones.
Beach
Prevelly, Gnarabup, Smiths, Yallingup. Turquoise water, white sand, and on a weekday quite often nobody else on it.
Forest
Boranup karri forest goes silent the moment you step into it. The Cape to Cape Track runs 120km down the coast.
Quiet
This is the actual point. No traffic, no queue, no schedule but your own. Couples arrive wound up and leave slow.

The Marriage Office has different spaces for different vibes. We cater to the whimsical, the romantic, the traditional, the adventurous and the nature lovers. We are also booking agents to take your ceremony outdoors - to open farmland with gnarly trees, pristine native forest, or even a tiny chapel on wheels.

A small styled space built by a Celebrant with 18 years of experience. A gold door, a wall of gold sequins, a Wes Anderson bay window. Up to four guests seated, ten standing. Indoors, so the weather is somebody else's problem.
Big Love Tiny Chapel
Margaret River Heartland, Cowaramup
A chapel wedding in a whimsical tiny chapel that spent three years being towed around the region and now sits permanently on a farm, between hay paddocks, ancient peppermint trees and native bush - under the prehistoric song of the karak, the red-tailed black cockatoo, flying overhead. Two to four inside with you, everyone else gathered on the porch.

Private bush and farmland for couples who want the whole thing outdoors - a forest wedding, a farm wedding, or a vineyard if that's more your speed. It is the least office-like elopement venue we have. Tell us the picture in your head and we'll find the right outdoor space for you.

Both packages include the legals. Your Notice of Intended Marriage prepared and lodged, your marriage registered with WA Births, Deaths & Marriages, and a presentation certificate on the day.

Getting here is easier than it looks
Flights
Direct flights from Melbourne and Sydney land at Busselton-Margaret River Airport three times a week, thirty minutes up the road. Otherwise fly into Perth from any capital and it is a three-hour drive south through the wine country.
You don't need to live here
There is no residency requirement to marry in Australia, and none for Western Australia either. Interstate couples marry here constantly. So do couples flying in from overseas.
The paperwork travels
Your Notice of Intended Marriage does not require you to be in the state. We send it to you, you sign it in front of an authorised witness over FaceTime, and send it back. One calendar month before the wedding, minimum.
Make a week of it
Most couples come for four or five days, and one of them is the wedding. We live here, so ask us where to stay, where to eat and which beach to have to yourselves - we are happy to point.

Common questions
The bits people always ask
How far ahead should we book?
The legal minimum is one calendar month between lodging your Notice of Intended Marriage and the wedding. For a destination elopement most couples give themselves three to six months, mostly so flights and accommodation are cheaper rather than because we need it. The notice stays valid for 18 months.
We don't live in WA. Can we still get married here?
Yes, and plenty of couples do. There is no residency requirement to marry in Australia - not for the state, not for the country. Bring your passports or birth certificates, and evidence a previous marriage has ended if that applies.
How does the paperwork work if we're interstate?
Entirely remotely. We send you the Notice of Intended Marriage, you sign it in front of an authorised witness wherever you are, and send it back to us. We lodge it, and we register the marriage afterwards. You do not need to set foot in WA until the week of the wedding.
What does a Margaret River elopement cost?
From $995 for the Simple Ceremony at the Marriage Office, and $2,295 for the Luxe Elopement with a tailored ceremony and a professional photographer included. Both cover the celebrant, the paperwork and the registration. Off-site venues, including Big Love Tiny Chapel at $750, are added as upgrades in your quote. Nothing to pay to enquire or check a date - a booking fee confirms it once you have accepted your quote.
When is the best time of year?
Spring and autumn are the easy answer - warm, green and quieter than summer. Summer is glorious and busy. Winter is an emerging favourite: open fires, mulled wine, comfort food and an indoor space that was built for exactly that.
How many guests can we bring?
This is a micro wedding venue rather than a reception venue, so the numbers are small by design. Six seated at the Marriage Office, ten standing. At the tiny chapel, two to four inside with you and everyone else gathered on the porch. For a larger group we can move you to one of our partner venues - tell us the number and we'll make a recommendation.
Do you help plan the rest of it?
We give you a list of recommendations with contact details - beaches, cellar doors, photographers, where to stay - and you book directly with them. We live here, so the list is the good version rather than whatever comes up first on Google.
Is the marriage certificate included?
You get a presentation certificate on the day. The official certified one comes from WA Births, Deaths & Marriages for $60 if you need it, usually for a name change, a visa or a passport. We'll show you how - it takes about two minutes.
Can we bring our dog?
Yes. Dogs on leads are welcome. Let us know they're coming so we can make sure the Marriage Office mascot - Freddie Mercury, a mini dachshund - is off-site during your ceremony.
