Story-telling
Story-telling is a technique used in wedding ceremonies to weave together the past, present, and future of the couple, but in a creative, engaging, and memorable way. Although most ceremonies at the Marriage Office are personalised, story-telling is an extra element that amps the emotional wow factor up a whole ‘nother notch. Alternative ceremonies
A relationship is any kind of association or connection between people, whether intimate or platonic. They are generally based on emotional intimacy, and some level of ongoing commitment. They may be monogamous, or open to other partners.
Our Celebrants are ethical and rational, and support democracy and human rights. We believe all consensual relationships based on shared respect and mutual validation deserve to be celebrated. As such, we conduct other types of wedding-related ceremonies too… Here are some ideas.
Vow renewals — remind yourselves what you love about each other. Often this act of intentional re-commitment ignites feelings you felt early in your relationship, and confirms to each other you have both made the right choice.
Commitment — an exchange of promises that you commit to making each other happy, and meeting each other’s needs, without a formally legal process.
The 5-year contract — promise that for the next 5 years, you’ll show up for each other as a loving partner. If, in 5 years time you decide to renew your commitment to one another, it is a conscious choice by both of you to keep showing up. If not, you can part ways, with no hard feelings, and in appreciation that you had a great 5 years together!
Sologamy — for the happily unattached, this ceremony is to publicly acknowledge that you will hereby treat yourself with priority and kindness, and commit to maintaining a meaningful, deep, and loving relationship with yourself.
Polyamorous / ethical nonmonogamous commitments / living apart together
Recognition of your “significant other” — nominate any “significant other” as next of kin, inheritance beneficiary and nominee for host of other mutual rights. This could be a partner or lover, but it could also be a sister, carer or best friend.
Baby namings
Coming of age
Pagan rituals / tying the knot
Phew, it’s a lot! Please get in touch and let us know how we can help you. We want to get it right, so give us as much information as possible.
Fiancé Visa Letter
If you have been asked to provide a Fiancé Visa Letter to support your Prospective Marriage Visa application, this can be obtained immediately after lodging your NOIM with the Margaret River Marriage Office.
Only one person’s signature is legally required to lodge your NOIM, so if your Fiancé is overseas, no problem — we can still help you.
For more information about this visa, which allows the partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia, visit the Department of Home Affairs.
NOIM witnessing
You’re required to have your signatures witnessed on page 4 of the NOIM, but sometimes it can be hard to find a JP or GP or Police Officer (etc). Then there’s the issue of lodging your NOIM with your preferred Celebrant. We take all the headache out of that process, by witnessing your NOIM, AND transferring it to your nominated Celebrant on your behalf.
News flash — this can now be done via Facetime or Zoom if you can’t make it in person. We love making things easy!
